Susan Webster

Susan Webster studied in Rome in the early 1980’s, rejecting the prevailing conceptualism. Her search for art forms shows us simple amusements of life, its comforts and, at times, its ironies.

She has been compared to the fauvists, as she creates aesthetic pleasure with compositions capturing bright colors and harmonious forms. Using intense color to express lively feelings and an excitement of life, she assembles a theater of mixed media on canvas and presents simplified subjects in a complete pictorial, inviting one to explore the world as she sees it rather than how someone says it should be. Her images represent not the reality of the subject, but the relationship she has with the subject.
