Bayard T. Berndt
(1908-1987) one of the Brandywine Valley's most prolific artists, the late Bayard Taylor Berndt (B.T.).
B.T.'s dream was to paint murals of regional historic events, reminiscent of N.C. Wyeth's illustrative style, who was one of his instructors. Using a bold, plein aire method of painting, he recreated scenes such as Christmas in New Castle in 1750, Lafayette's Quarters in Chadds Ford and sleigh races in Newark, Delaware.
Some of B.T.'s original works are in the collections of: Hotel duPont, Wilmington Trust, Delmarva Power, University of Delaware, Avon, and numerous private companies. Many of his paintings are still privately owned and treasured from one generation to the next, rarely being sold on the open market.
